Project Overview

Met Consultancy Group (Met) have provided a range of survey services on and around the Unique Grade I listed Piece Hall. Built over 230 years ago the Georgian masterpiece was originally a marketplace for cloth trading. The Piece Hall is now a thriving centre with a gallery, art & craft shops and cafés. Calderdale Council embarked on a £16 million Piece Hall Transformation Project.

Prior to the transformation project, Met had completed the topographical, measured building and elevation surveys for the Piece Hall. This next project extended beyond the quadrangle of the Piece Hall to survey the Industrial museum (closed in 2000) and the Square Chapel Tower. Total Stations linked to hand held computers running MBS software were used to survey these areas.

Met have worked on a wide range of historic and listed structures over the last 21 years using different techniques to meet client requirements. The end product is a set of CAD drawings often surveyed at various scales of detail along with 3D models. A client will commonly need to provide 2D drawings of features and fine details at 1:10 scale with overall plans and elevations at 1:50 or 1:100 scale (these can be taken from the 3D model). Whatever the requirement, a survey can be set up to achieve the desired results.

Laser scanning or photogrammetry provide a large amount of detailed data, sometimes this doesn’t need to be replicated in a drawing format and the scan data (point clouds) or photographs can be stored for future use, creating a valuable archive.
