The Highways Tower Blocks mixed development of high rise and maisonettes, earmarked by Leeds City Council for social housing development.

Project Overview

The redevelopment of the Highways Tower Blocks forms part of Leeds City Council’s commitment to deliver high density, modern, energy efficient social housing more suited to meeting Leeds housing needs. Having explored many options for the 132 homes currently located on the site the council concluded that the two tower blocks and attached maisonettes should be replaced due to the current housing stock on site exceeding its design life and refurbishment of the homes to the required standard not being financially viable.

Technical Overview

Met GeoEnvironmental were commissioned to undertake a range of surveys to enable the design, consultation, and demolition of the existing buildings on site.

Critical to the safe demolition of the tower blocks was the location of underground services and the position of the culvert which runs across the A64, one of the main arteries into the centre of Leeds and passes under site to allow for the contractors to bring in heavy, specialist demolition equipment.

Met GeoEnvironmental utilisied all aspects of surveying techniques and confined spaces team to deliver a high-quality project allowing for the project to progress without delay.
