Project Overview

Grade II listed Kirk Mill is a historic cotton mill complex located within a conservation area near Chipping in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire. Met Consultancy Group were commissioned to perform surveys of the mill and surrounding area including buildings, ruins and land, to inform redevelopment plans for the site and refurbishment of the mill buildings.

Technical Overview

Surveying the topography of the 11-acre (4.5-hectare) site and existing stream proved challenging due to significant overgrowth since the mills closure in 2010. Some of the buildings were also in a dilapidated state. But the Met survey team didn’t let a bit of foliage get in the way; we completed the surveys requested and delivered the results and report to the client on time.

Following a recent additional survey, also conducted by Met, the site has achieved full planning for conversion into a 60-bedroom hotel with associated leisure uses including a wedding venue, spa, restaurants, trail head centre and kids’ club, which will create a strong leisure destination. A high quality, 46-unit residential scheme is also being developed as part of the wider regeneration of the site that will breathe new life and generate jobs and new homes for the area.
