We are looking to recruit enthusiastic Trainee Utility Surveyors to join our integrated survey, geophysics and utility mapping department, with apprenticeship placements potentially available for suitable candidates.
- Full UK driving licence is required

Location: Predominantly based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, with occasional travel to project sites throughout the UK.
Job type: Permanent, full-time.

Role Description
The successful candidate will learn how to use…
- GPS and total stations.
- CAD and processing software.
- Electromagnetic location equipment.
- Ground penetrating radar.
… and the role involves learning how to:
- Work safely across a range of domestic, commercial and industrial sites.
- Carry out utility surveys, including working to PAS128 specifications.
- Work as part of a field-based team undertaking utility and geophysical surveys.
- Use electromagnetic detection equipment and ground-penetrating radar to locate buried features.
- Process data and prepare AutoCAD drawings and reports for clients.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a reliable, motivated individual with a genuine interest in developing a career in utility surveying.
The successful candidate should be:
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic about learning.
- Comfortable working outdoors, as much of the early training will take place on live sites.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from experienced surveyors.
- Willing to develop the knowledge and confidence needed to carry out survey tasks under supervision.
- Aware of the importance of producing accurate, high-quality work within agreed timescales.
- Willing to learn and follow our health and safety procedures and quality and environmental management systems.
- Able to travel throughout the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
- Flexible regarding working hours where project requirements make this necessary.
- Able to demonstrate good attention to detail, problem-solving skills and a positive attitude to work.
Previous experience of utility surveying, topographical surveying, construction, CAD or survey equipment would be helpful, but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction, a minimum of two A Levels, or an equivalent relevant vocational qualification.
- GCSEs or equivalent in English and mathematics, with a science subject desirable.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The right to live and work in the UK, with good written and spoken English.
- A high level of motivation and a genuine ambition to build a long-term career in utility mapping and surveying.
- The ability to follow instructions, work carefully and develop technical skills through practical training.
A relevant degree or previous industry experience is not required for this trainee role.
