Priniciple Engineer (Traffic / Highways / Drainage)

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire
Job type: Permanent, full-time
Salary: Negotiable dependent upon experience
Minimum experience required: 7 years in a relevant role

Job Purpose:

Responsible to the Director for providing advice to Clients on all aspects of drainage, traffic and highway engineering on various residential / industrial / commercial developments throughout the UK


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work individually (and co-ordinating the team) to undertake Transport Statements / Assessments for projects of varying size and Travel Plans
  • Prepare horizontal / vertical alignments to Highway Authority specifications including highway construction details
  • Prepare highway feasibility reports
  • Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies (“SUDS”)
  • Prepare junction layouts (priority junctions, roundabouts and traffic signals)
  • Prepare schemes for street lighting, traffic signals and carriage way markings
  • Contract preparation and Bill of Quantities for Section 278 Highway Improvement Schemes
  • Prepare drawings for Highway Adoption agreements (Section 38 and 278) and Drainage Adoption agreements (Section 104)
  • To present information using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other IT software
  • Awareness of commercial / financial constraints
  • To prepare fee proposals and tenders
  • To undertake Road Safety Audits to HD19/15
  • Time management of Assistant/Graduate Engineers within the team
  • To prepare Road Closure Applications under Section 247, TCPA

Knowledge / Qualifications and Skills Needed:

  • Chartered Engineer with relevant highway / drainage experience & M.Sc. in Traffic and Transportation
  • An understanding of specification detail & a knowledge of construction
  • CAD and IT software skills essential (PICADY, ARCADY, LINSIG, TRICS, CIVIL3D, MICRODRAINAGE)
  • Working well under pressure
  • Ability to work as a team, as well as individually, and take initiative
  • A proactive approach to resolving practical planning and development problems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including attendance at Public Inquiries and Client
  • Compliance of Quality Assurance System ISO9001
  • CDM Regulations & Designer Risk Assessments
  • Good organisational skills and project programming to achieve client and service delivery
