Apprentice or Trainee Geospatial/Land Survey Technician

Leeds based integrated surveying and engineering firm, Met Consultancy Group, is looking to recruit enthusiastic people for the above full-time position. We are a well-established multi-disciplinary business first established in 1990 with over 50 qualified, engineers, surveyors and geophysicists.

Apprentice/Trainee Role and Responsibilities

The role is primarily a site role but you will have opportunities to undertake data processing and drawing work in the office as you progress. You will learn to use the latest survey technology essential for a range of field and measured building surveys, how to control and use data and how to process to provide clients with finished technical drawings.

You will be supervised and part of the land survey team although there may also be the possibility of working within other departments over time.

The work may be related to new developments, new infrastructure including utilities and drainage, existing building refurbishments, Land Registry or Property Deeds. It does normally require site visits to undertake surveys and the company works on projects across the Yorkshire and the UK so opportunities to travel and work on varied projects will be available. Additional flexibility will be required from candidates as you will need to be prepared to stay away for overnight stays at company expense, on project visits (generally no more than a maximum two weeks at any time).

The formal training will be on suitable and established apprentice or higher education course. This will be classroom based and cover topics such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Geographic Information System (GIS)s, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Health and Safety.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have:

  • a minimum of GCSE qualifications at 9-4 or A-C grades in at least 5 subjects including English and Maths with preference for other science subjects
  • A’levels or other higher education qualifications
  • a high level of motivation and willingness to work hard and learn with a genuine ambition to grow and develop a career in Land Survey.
