Apprentice / Trainee Civil Engineering Technician

Leeds based integrated surveying and engineering firm, Met Consultancy Group, is looking to recruit enthusiastic people for the above full-time position. We are a well-established multi-disciplinary business first established in 1990 with over 50 qualified, engineers, surveyors and geophysicists.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate looking to start a career in the civil engineering industry.

Apprentice/Trainee Role and Responsibilities

The role is primarily office based but you will have opportunities to make site visits. You will learn to use the latest CAD, design and analysis software to provide calculations, details and designs in support of the Engineering team.

You will be supervised and part of the civil engineering team although there may also be the possibility of working with the structures team.

The work may be related to design of roads and drainage, foundations, retaining walls and building structures. It may involve desk-top research to assist in compiling reports such as flood risk assessments.

The formal training will be on suitable and established apprentice or higher education course. This will be classroom based and cover topics such as design, calculations, analysis, problem solving, project delivery, site engineering and Health and Safety.

The company works on projects across the Yorkshire and the UK so opportunities to travel and work on varied projects will be available. You may be required to stay way for overnight stays, at company expense, on project visits.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have:

  • a minimum of GCSE qualifications at 9-4 or A-C grades in at least 5 subjects including English and Maths with preference for other science subjects
  • A’levels or other higher education qualifications
  • a high level of motivation and willingness to work hard and learn with a genuine ambition to grow and develop a career in civil engineering.
