The Excellent Homes for Life project is a PFI project to finance, manage and maintain 500 new Lifetime Homes in Kirklees. Met Consultancy Group (Met) were appointed to provide civil and structural engineering designs for each site.

Lifetime Homes include design features that improve comfort, safety and convenience. These features allow people with particular care needs to live more independently in their own homes, throughout their life.

Excellent Homes for Life is a ground-breaking approach to meeting housing needs across Kirklees. The Kirklees MDC successfully bid for government Private Finance Initiative (PFI) funding to allow them to go into partnership with an external company to deliver these new homes.

The project will be delivered by a Special Purpose Vehicle owned jointly by Regenter and Wates Construction, who will be providing the design and build elements of the contract through their affordable housing business, Wates Living Space.

Met have been appointed by Wates Living Space as their consulting engineers to provide civil and structural engineering designs for each of the sites.

The project consisted of 30 individual sites spread throughout the Kirklees area, ranging from 4 units to 44 units per site. As part of this Excellent Homes for Life project, there will be 140 ‘Extra Care’ housing tenancies for the elderly in three new ‘Extra Care’ schemes, including 10 flats built to meet the specific needs of people with dementia.

Each site is required to achieve a Level 4 rating under the Code for Sustainable Homes.
